Launch of Northern Ireland Partnership for Action

09.05.07

The recent launch of the Northern Ireland Partnership for Action against Wildlife crime group (PAW) [see www.defra.gov.uk/paw] is an exciting development in the battle against wildlife crime in Northern Ireland. This multi-agency approach to tackling wildlife crime allows resources to be targeting into this area. The Northern Ireland Raptor Study Group is placed uniquely to detect persecution problems with birds of prey, due to the amount of time fieldworkers spend at raptor breeding and wintering sites, and undertakes, by its involvement with PAW to continue to detect and report incidents of raptor persecution, with a view to reducing its occurrence. However, we also aim to raise the public profile and attitudes of people to reduce negative attitudes to birds of prey in general.

If you have any suspicions of wildlife crime having taken place or potentially occurring please contact the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) [www.psni.police.uk] and contact Environment and Heritage Service [www.ehsni.gov.uk] immediately. The Northern Ireland Raptor Study Group can provide some support and liaison for the collection of injured birds of prey contact us at
